Iran Then and Now

RAN, THEN AND NOW

THEN

Previous reports indicate that Jared Kushner has played a significant role in initiatives under former President Trump aimed at exploring alternatives to Iran’s current regime. Kushner has been instrumental in bringing together prominent Iranian American business leaders to provide strategic advice on possible transitional governance frameworks, should the Islamic Republic’s leadership collapse or undergo a major transformation. These efforts include organizing high-level meetings in Palm Beach, Florida, where participants are expected to discuss potential opposition figures, strategies for a peaceful transition, and scenarios for post-regime governance in Iran.

It is important to note that these activities are preparatory in nature and are contingent upon a significant change or collapse of the current Iranian regime. They do not constitute an active attempt to replace the government currently. Instead, the focus is on contingency planning and ensuring that, if regime change were to occur, there would be a well-considered roadmap for stability and governance. These discussions are taking place in parallel with ongoing U.S.-Iran nuclear negotiations, in which Kushner is also involved. However, his role in the nuclear talks is centered on diplomatic engagement and efforts to address nuclear proliferation concerns, rather than on regime change or direct intervention in Iran’s internal affairs.

NOW

Recent reports indicate that Jared Kushner, senior advisor and son-in-law to President Trump, has renewed his involvement in exploring alternatives to Iran’s Islamic regime, particularly in the event of its collapse. Kushner is reportedly tasked by President Trump to assess and recommend potential replacement structures for the current regime. His efforts focus on convening influential Iranian American business leaders and experts to advise on transitional governance, should the Islamic Republic fall due to internal unrest or leadership instability.

Sources familiar with the initiative describe it as a preparatory measure rather than an active regime-change operation. The goal is to ensure a smooth and stable transition, emphasizing economic continuity and administrative order in a post-regime Iran. Plans are underway to organize meetings in Palm Beach, Florida—possibly near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate—where opposition figures and diaspora advisors would discuss interim governance models and identify credible leaders for a transitional authority. However, these meetings are still in the planning stages and may be subject to logistical delays.

While the White House has not officially commented on the specifics, the so-called “Kushner Plan” is being developed in parallel with ongoing U.S.-Iran diplomatic talks in Oman, where Kushner is also involved, but those discussions are focused on nuclear issues rather than regime change. The current planning draws on Kushner’s previous experience with Middle East peace and reconstruction efforts but is tailored to Iran’s unique political and social landscape, prioritizing input from the Iranian diaspora over direct U.S. intervention.

It is crucial for the Iranian diaspora to remain engaged and vocal, especially as many inside Iran call for the return of the Pahlavi monarchy. Their advocacy can encourage U.S. policymakers and President Trump to consider involving Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi in any future transitional process, ensuring that the voices of both Iranians inside the country and abroad are represented in shaping Iran’s future.
